ChatGPT Ads for Hotels: What Hoteliers Need to Know
ChatGPT Ads are now available in Germany, giving hotels access to a new advertising environment – one where potential guests research trips, compare options and narrow down their choices through conversation.
So what makes advertising in ChatGPT different from traditional digital ads?
A new touchpoint in travel planning
A traditional hotel search often starts with just a few keywords:
„Adults Only Hotel Netherlands”, “Boutique Hotel Noordwijk” or “Weekend Hotel Amsterdam”.
In ChatGPT, travellers can be much more specific:
“I’m looking for a quiet Adults Only hotel in the Netherlands with great food, no more than 30 minutes from the airport. What would you recommend?”
From there, they can refine their requirements, compare options and ask follow-up questions.
For hotels, this creates another potential touchpoint in the digital guest journey. ChatGPT Ads can appear within this conversational environment and complement existing performance marketing channels.

How do ChatGPT Ads work?
Ads can appear below a ChatGPT response. They are clearly labelled as sponsored and visually separated from the answer itself.
Importantly, advertising does not influence ChatGPT’s answers.
Advertisers cannot pay to be recommended by ChatGPT or to rank more prominently within an answer.
The context and intent of the current conversation can be taken into account when determining which ads are relevant. For hotels, this is particularly interesting because travel decisions often involve much more than a single keyword – from destination and location to hotel style, occasion and individual preferences.

What does this mean for hotels?
ChatGPT Ads aren’t a replacement for Google Ads, Google Hotel Ads or Social Media Advertising.
They add another potential touchpoint to the performance marketing mix.
The question, then, isn’t whether hotels should immediately move budget into a new channel.
A much more useful question is:
What role could ChatGPT play for your hotel, your guests and your direct booking strategy?
Testing the channel early and in a controlled way can help hotels build first-hand experience, gather their own data and understand where ChatGPT Ads may fit into their wider marketing mix.
Our take:
Don’t be everywhere. Be where it matters.
ChatGPT Ads as part of Performance Marketing
As with any paid campaign, the click is only the beginning.
What happens next matters just as much: Is the offer relevant? Are the rate and availability right? Is the booking journey easy?
That’s why we see ChatGPT Ads as part of the wider performance marketing picture rather than as a standalone tactic – with the aim of turning visibility into relevant website visits and, ultimately, direct bookings.
